   Yes, probably you have the right that shell was broken! I found it in my garden as it is being seen.

   Most likely that the shell is not broken. The animal was taken out by force from its shell, which if broken should have been cleaned carefully. It is a Helix species and thus a victim of a human cruelty about to die fortunately soon.
